How to learn time management skills

Dig your well BEFORE you get thirsty

The one commodity we have in abundance but which is also finite is of course time.

It does however eventually run out.

What you do with it while you have it will define your success in life.

It is essential to do what you have to do while you still have the time to do it.

Without time, you can fix nothing, you can achieve nothing!

Time well utilised will keep you one step ahead of the competition.

What then does digging your well before you get thirsty mean to you?

This is an old Chinese proverb that simply means that if you dig your well before you get thirsty you will not die of thirst.

Essentially then, as this site is a learning one, it is about preparedness and thinking ahead with the ultimate goal of helping you remove an obstacle that is hindering your journey to success. .

  • Can you figure those out before they become a problem?

Learning how to lay bricks properly is all well and good if you are thinking of building your own house or even changing your career but would be of little use if you are looking to become a best-selling author or an eCommerce entrepreneur and would not be a great usage of your available time. Conversely, of course a lesson in writing would be little use to the budding brick layer.

It is therefore fairly safe to say that looking ahead and proper planning is the key to meaningful time management and ultimate success in your chosen career, be it working for yourself or not.

Here are six tips for effectively managing your time:

  1. Know your goals. Make sure you’re engaging in activities that support your business goals, both short- and long-term. Think of the brick laying author?
  2. Prioritise wisely. Utilise your time doing things that will help you achieve your end goals. Never lose sight of your goals and it helps to constantly remind yourself of the desired final outcome… visualise it!
  3. Just say no. … it’s not your job to solve everyone else’s problems, unless of course that is indeed your actual job, if not NO will save you a lot of time! harder than you think to say NO!
  4. Plan ahead. Of course, how else are you going to get there?
  5. Eliminate distractions. A growing problem in this digital World. Try to be in a different room to your phone/TV even your kids.
  6. Delegate more often. Again not as easy as you would think but essential, sometimes the adage “a problem shared is a problem solved” makes a lot of sense. You can of course do everything your self but if you really thinking about doing that you need to understand your own limitations and be happy with them.

What ever your choice in life are making money for your self and family should be one of them, this of course is easier said than done and sometimes a little help can go a long way up the ladder of expectations?
